STARTING OUT
I started competing in field trials having had the best luck in the world selecting a puppy that was a natural. Rory was bought not with the idea to field trial, but just, hopefully, to compete in working tests and work in the shooting field. I was fortunate to have also bought my previous puppy from Philippa Williams who ran dog training classes. She, along with others in the puppy class encouraged us to go onto the gundog class and from there we joined our first gundog club, etc, etc.
Rory was such a talented and natural dog to train that going onto field trial with him was the obvious course of action. Our success was all down to his ability - certainly not mine! Rory won his first ever open stake and eventually went on to win the Northern Golden Retriever Association 2-day stake at Hy-Fly Game Farm, Lancashire in 2009 making him a Field Trial Champion
